Primary Causes & Action Plans

TNF-Alpha

Pro-inflammatory cytokine driving Th1 response in psoriasis
TNF-alpha is elevated in psoriasis and drives inflammation. Anti-TNF therapies are effective for psoriasis.
Target < 2.4 pg/mL
Suggested Action Plan

Anti-TNF medications are effective but reserved for severe disease. Try anti-inflammatory diet and trigger elimination first.

hs-CRP

Marker of systemic inflammation
Elevated in active psoriasis. Anti-inflammatory interventions reduce CRP and improve skin.
Target < 1.0 mg/L
Suggested Action Plan

Mediterranean diet, omega-3 supplementation, exercise reduce inflammation. Retest monthly.

Streptococcal Serology

Recent streptococcal infection can trigger psoriasis flares
ASO titers identify recent strep infection, which can trigger guttate psoriasis. Treatment of strep may resolve psoriasis.
Target Negative
Suggested Action Plan

If positive ASO titer, confirm strep infection and treat. Psoriasis often improves after infection resolution.

Microbiome

Dysbiosis associated with impaired immune tolerance
Dysbiosis allows pathogenic overgrowth. Restored dysbiosis improves immune tolerance and psoriasis.
Target Healthy diversity
Suggested Action Plan

Probiotics and prebiotic fiber improve psoriasis in many. Retest after 8-12 weeks.

Getting Started

1
Test Your Psoriasis Drivers

Test TNF-alpha, hs-CRP, streptococcal serology, microbiome. Identify whether psoriasis is driven by infection, inflammation, or dysbiosis.

2
Treat Underlying Infection

If strep positive, treat infection. Psoriasis often improves afterward.

3
Adopt Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle

Mediterranean diet, stress reduction, probiotics, anti-TNF foods improve psoriasis in many.

4
Consider Systemic Therapy if Severe

If topical/diet fail, biologic anti-TNF therapy (adalimumab, infliximab) is highly effective. Work with dermatologist.

5
Retest Biomarkers Monthly

Psoriasis improves as inflammation decreases. Retest TNF-alpha and hs-CRP to track progress.
