Primary Causes & Action Plans

Total IgE

Elevated in atopic dermatitis; indicates allergic/immune dysregulation
IgE elevation indicates Th2 immune skewing characteristic of atopic dermatitis. High IgE often indicates atopy (allergies, asthma, eczema).
Target < 150 IU/mL
Suggested Action Plan

Rebalance immune response through probiotics, vitamin D optimization, anti-inflammatory diet. Eliminate food triggers identified via testing.

hs-CRP

Systemic inflammation driving skin inflammation
Elevated hs-CRP indicates systemic inflammation driving skin flares. Anti-inflammatory intervention reduces skin symptoms.
Target < 1.0 mg/L
Suggested Action Plan

Anti-inflammatory diet, omega-3 supplementation, exercise reduce hs-CRP and skin inflammation. Retest in 3 months.

Vitamin D

Critical for immune tolerance and skin barrier integrity
Vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased eczema severity and is immunosuppressive. Vitamin D optimization reduces flares.
Target > 50 ng/mL
Suggested Action Plan

Supplement vitamin D3 4000-5000 IU daily. Target 60-80 ng/mL. Most people with atopic dermatitis benefit from high-dose vitamin D.

Microbiome Dysbiosis

Dysbiosis associated with impaired skin barrier and increased allergen permeability
Dysbiotic microbiome increases intestinal permeability, allowing allergen translocation and systemic immune activation. Dysbiosis is correctable.
Target Healthy diversity
Suggested Action Plan

Restore dysbiosis through probiotics and prebiotic fiber. Improve skin by healing gut barrier.

Getting Started

1
Test for Eczema Drivers

Test total IgE, hs-CRP, vitamin D, and food sensitivities. These reveal whether eczema is driven by allergies, inflammation, immune dysregulation, or food triggers.

2
Eliminate Food Triggers

Common triggers: gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy. Elimination diet for 4-6 weeks; reintroduce to identify your specific triggers. Many people clear completely with elimination.

3
Heal Your Gut Barrier

Leaky gut drives eczema through allergen translocation. Supplement L-glutamine, zinc carnosine, bone broth. These repair intestinal barrier and improve skin.

4
Restore Healthy Microbiome

Probiotics (Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium) and prebiotic fiber restore dysbiosis. Improved microbiome reduces skin inflammation within weeks.

5
Retest and Reassess

Most people clear within 2-3 months of comprehensive intervention. Retest IgE and hs-CRP to confirm improvement.

Why I built this guide.

"Eczema is often curable when you address underlying immune dysregulation and triggers."
